Paraffin Wax together with an equal part of Microcrystalline Wax, is used to preserve wooden hive boxes. Best used with an equal part of Microcrystaline Wax to raise the flashpoint of the molten wax.
A hot-wax dipped hive can be expected to extend woodwork by preventing the ingress of moisture which facilitates wood rot.
Woodware is submerged for 10 minutes in molten wax at temperature between 130degC and 165degC.
IMPORTANT: Control temperatures carefully as overheating may result in a spontaneous wax fire. Best used with an equal part of Microcrystaline Wax to raise the flashpoint of the molten wax.
A 200L wax dipping tank would require about 150kg of wax.
1kg of the wax is likely to be sufficient to treat 4-5 boxes.
